About NCPEIDWho We Are?The National Consortium for Physical Education for Individuals with Disabilities plays a major role in shaping the direction of adapted physical education and adapted physical activity. Its membership has been active in promoting legislation and personal preparation programs that improve the quality of physical education and recreation for individuals with disabilities. For example, members have been involved at the federal level promoting versions of the reauthorized Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEIA - PL 108-446) as well as the Americans with Disabilities Act (PL 101-336). The Consortium is a valuable resource for professionals seeking information and direction on various legislative and advocacy issues. Members also contribute to the growing knowledge base for the disciplines through research and demonstration programs. Our MissionThe mission of the National Consortium for Physical Education for Individuals with Disabilities (Consortium) is to promote, stimulate, and encourage legislative mandates, professional preparation, advocacy, and research in physical activity, physical education and recreation for individuals with disabilities. The Consortium promotes development of programs and services, and disseminates professional information to assist members. Our HistoryThe National Consortium for Physical Education for Individuals with Disabilities (NCPEID), formerly known as National Consortium for Physical Education and Recreation for Individuals with Disabilities, was founded in 1975 by a group of higher education professionals with a vision for quality personnel preparation, research/demonstration, and service. Why You Should Join?Membership is open to all persons who are or have been involved in professional preparation, demonstration, or research activity related to physical education and recreation for individuals with disabilities. University faculty in adapted physical education as well as public school and residential facility personnel are encouraged to become members MembershipThe following options are available for NCPEID membership. Maintaining active membership status with NCPEID also provides members with additional benefits.
