For Initial Certification in both the Practitioner and Higher Education Tracks, the APENS Exam is administered online through Human Kinetics following a brief application process.

How is the APENS Exam Formatted?

The APENS exam includes 100 multiple-choice questions that assess essential knowledge of the APENS standards. Applicants have three hours to complete the exam. Questions are drawn from all fifteen APENS areas, reflecting the domains defined in the APENS manual. Study guide options are listed below for applicants who want more information on the standards.

How Much Does the APENS Exam Cost?

  • $250 for initial CAPE certification application (includes the APENS Exam) in both tracks.
  • $100 for CAPE recertification application in both tracks.
