Initial CAPE Certification: Higher Education Track

All portions of the application must be completed online at one time so please be sure to have all of your information and required documentation available before you begin the application. The application cannot be saved nor returned at a later date. All portions of the application need to be submitted to and reviewed by the APENS Committee before an examination period will be scheduled. A checklist is provided to help you gather the documents needed and to guide you as you complete the application. Consider printing it for use.

    • ❏    Provide evidence of professional preparation.
      • ❏    Graduate degree with major in physical education, adapted physical education, adapted physical activity, special education or a related area in a graduate program.
      • ❏    Completion of a minimum of 15 credit hours of coursework specific to adapted physical education across undergraduate and graduate degrees.
      • ❏    Send relevant college transcripts to APENS
      • ❏    If applicable, upload PDF copies of any or all current licenses or certificates you possess to teach physical education in your state.
    • ❏   Provide evidence of professional service in higher education.
      • ❏   Record of a minimum of 2 years of experience in higher education.
      • ❏   Evidence of being the instructor of record for a minimum of 15 credit hours teaching the area of adapted physical education and/or supervising college/university students in practica, internships, and/or student teaching related to the direct instruction of students with disabilities in physical education environments (e.g., school environments, disability sports programs, adapted physical activity service-learning programs).
      • ❏   Upload signed copy of Endorsement of Experience by Supervisor/Administrator

  • ❏    Complete Acknowledgement of Examination Terms section of the online application

The NCPEID reserves the right to reject any application that does not meet eligibility criteria as documented in this application.
